Qualifications

Providers of in-home support, companion and personal services must be at least 18 years of age and have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a medical, Psychiatric, nursing or childcare setting or working with recipients who have a developmental disability.

College, vocational or technical training equals 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or 730 classroom hours may substitute for the required experience. License, certification, or registration is not required.
The qualifications of the Support Living Coach shall have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business, nursing, education or a social behavioral or rehabilitative science. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree an associate degree from an accredited college of university with a major in business, nursing, education or social, behavioral or rehabilitative science and two years experience. Experience in one of the previously mentioned fields shall substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

On The Job Training

Training
All training will be completed according to APD timeline and maintained in staff file and will be updated annually or according to the specific training requirement for updates. Training will be obtained through APD and private settings. Mandatory training as listed below is required before rendering service to consumers.
